Commander (EDH) Mana Base Upgrade Guide: Fetch Lands, Shock Lands, Duals & Triomes

The fastest way to make a Commander deck feel more consistent has nothing to do with adding higher-salt spells. It comes down to replacing slow, enter-the-battlefield-tapped lands with an untapped fetch-and-dual mana base that lets you cast your spells on curve every turn.

Whether you are tuning a two-color guild list, a three-color shard or wedge deck, or a five-color WUBRG pile, here is how a balanced 99-card Commander mana base is structured - and how to upgrade every land cycle with matching borderless art.

Full-art borderless land cycles bring cohesive visual identity and untapped mana consistency to any Commander pod.

The Four Core Land Cycles in Every Tuned Commander Deck

A responsive EDH mana base relies on four interlocking land cycles that work together from Turn 1:

  • Fetch Lands (10-Card Cycle): Polluted Delta, Misty Rainforest, Scalding Tarn, Verdant Catacombs, Bloodstained Mire, Flooded Strand, Windswept Heath, Wooded Foothills, Marsh Flats, and Arid Mesa. Because fetches find any land with a basic land type, a single fetch land can fix for all of your colors while fueling graveyard synergies and deck thinning.
  • Original Dual Lands (10-Card Cycle): Underground Sea, Tropical Island, Volcanic Island, Bayou, Badlands, Tundra, Savannah, Taiga, Scrubland, and Plateau. Having both basic land types with zero life-loss penalty makes them the gold standard fetch targets in casual and cEDH pods alike.
  • Shock Lands (10-Card Cycle): Watery Grave, Breeding Pool, Steam Vents, Overgrown Tomb, Blood Crypt, Hallowed Fountain, Temple Garden, Stomping Ground, Godless Shrine, and Sacred Foundry. Fetchable duals that enter untapped for 2 life when you need immediate tempo.
  • Battlebond Crowd Lands & Triomes: Multiplayer lands like Morphic Pool, Sea of Clouds, and Luxury Suite enter untapped automatically whenever you have two or more opponents, while Triomes (Zagoth Triome, Indatha Triome, etc.) provide three basic land types for Turn 1 fetch plays and late-game cycling.

Matching Your Mana Base Art Across All 36 Lands

One of the best parts of playing Commander is giving your deck a unified aesthetic theme - whether that means pairing an anime or fantasy commander with Studio Ghibli landscapes, woodblock prints from our Utagawa Hiroshige series, or dark Vintage Horror frames.

Instead of hunting down mismatched printings across a dozen expansions, our Non-Basic Land Bundles and Basic Land Bundles give you complete 10-card cycles of Fetch Lands, Dual Lands, Shock Lands, Surveil Lands, and Triomes printed on identical 330gsm S33 black-core stock.
